Normally, we try not to do releases on Fridays. Mostly because our dev and support teams also enjoy weekends.
This time we figured you might appreciate a little extra legroom for your posts over the weekend.
So here we are.
TL;DR
- Posts can now be up to 900 characters
- We’ve updated our verification screens with clearer explanations
- You can now search for and follow people who haven’t verified yet
- Search and @ mentions have been improved
- Share sheets got a tidy-up
- We fixed the black screen bug some folks were seeing
- We fixed a few home feed display issues
Improvements
900 Character Posts
You’ve got more room. 600 characters to be exact (because goodness knows we’ve all been counting characters).
Posts on Gander can now be up to 900 characters.
Thanks to some clever work by the dev team, we’ve also done this in a way that preserves interoperability with Bluesky in the future.
Snazzy.
Verification
As we work towards adding more verification options, we’re also making it clearer how each one works.
The verification screens have been updated with better explanations of what each option does and what information is involved.
More to come here.
Finding Your Friends
You can now search for people on Gander who haven’t verified yet.
They can also follow other people and access their notifications while they decide whether to verify.
This should make it a little easier to find your friends when they join.
And if you noticed your follower count jump recently, that’s why: people who followed you before verifying are now showing up in the counts.
We’ve also done some extra work on search more generally. It’s not quite where we want it yet, so expect more improvements over time.
Sharing
We’ve tidied up the share sheet design.
The Invite Friends card in Discover will also now open your own profile share sheet, making it easier to send someone your Gander profile.
Fixes
A few things we squashed this round:
- Fixed the black screen bug a few people were running into
- Fixed @ mentions on web so they properly search all users
- Fixed an issue where home feed chips sometimes weren’t displaying
- Various small share sheet and display improvements
Thanks
Thanks, as always, to everyone sending us bug reports and suggestions.
Keep them coming.
