To kick off Day 2 of Gander Gratitude Week, I’d like to talk about Melody Lumen, our Lead Software Engineer.

Shortly after we launched the Gander Social website, I received an email from one of the very first people to sign up for our Early Access Program. I try to read each and every email that comes in (and respond to as many as possible), so when I saw that they included their LinkedIn bio, I followed the link to their profile.
And I’m glad I did.
There, I found a software developer and entrepreneur named Melody, whose bio reads, “I have a passion for technology, the environment, and doing my best to leave this world a better place than I found it.”
Within a couple of days, we had set up a call, and I learned all about the storied career of someone who is not just a developer and tinkerer, but a person who is passionate about human rights, mental health, and the power of technology to change things.
We talked at length (she’s really good at it) about what we had planned for Gander. Our mission, goals, and some of the features we had in mind.
I kid you not, she had a white paper over to me, unrequested, the next day. It was thorough, insightful, and captured everything we discussed… and then some.
Since she’s become our Lead Software Engineer (because, of course we invited her to join us), I’ve learned that Melody will always dive deep into a challenge, and tackle the code alongside a proof of concept to validate her approach.
She’s driven to make Gander fly and to provide Canadians with ethical, equitable social media. And for that, we are fiercely grateful.
Thank you, Melody.
