Release v1.0.0.115 – April, 6 2026

TL;DR

  • Redesigned home screen with video hero, animated logo, and improved navigation
  • For You tab with People You May Know, Nest highlights, and interest-based suggestions
  • New Share Sheet for sharing posts via DM, repost, quote post, boards
  • Nine new topic feeds (Tech, Art, Food, Sports, and more)
  • Interests Picker with 15 categories that informs the feeds you see
  • Muting, better blocking, unified actions menu, and a handful of important fixes

New Features

Welcome home screen!

  • Video background with a welcome overlay for first-time users and a prompt to create your Nest because we all got very tired of that one pinned post
  • Animated Gander logo that shifts from white to black as you scroll down
  • Chip-based navigation (For You, Feeds, etc.) so you can slide between sections without losing your place
  • Cross-fade transitions between feed sections for a smoother feel

The first version of the Home Screen that feels like itself.

A new way to find people, and posts worth paying attention to.

  • People You May Know: follow or dismiss with one tap. Hit “Don’t recommend” and they’re gone for good. Well… from your recommendations anyway.
  • From Your Nest: a grid of recent posts from your Nest members, right on the home screen
  • Based on your interests: Feed and account suggestions tailored to the interests you selected (or updated, you can change them whenever you want)
  • Nest Feed is now organized via the Feeds tab for quick one-tap access

This is a first pass at personalized discovery. Plenty more refinements on the way.

One tidy bottom sheet to rule them all!

  • Share via DM, repost, quote post, or save to a board, all from one place
  • Search bar to find a person or action fast (helpful if you follow a lot of people)

Tell us what you’re into and we’ll build your feeds based on what you tell us.

  • 15 visual categories: Animals, Art, Books, Comedy, Comics, Community, Culture, Education, Food, Music, Nature, Photography, Politics, Sports, and Technology
  • Available during sign-up, in settings, and via a quick link on the home screen
  • Topic feed chips show and hide based on your selections

This feeds directly into the new topic feeds and the For You tab.

Nine new feeds that deliver content based on your interests and the conversations happening on Gander.

  • Technology, Art, Food, Sports, Photography, Politics & News,
  • Mutuals feed: posts only from people who follow you back
  • Feed Settings: choose your network: Gander only, or Gander + Bluesky

We’ll keep adding, curating, and fine tuning feeds.

When blocking is just a little too harsh. Maybe you just don’t want to see those Canuckle scores.

  • Mute any account to hide them from your feeds
  • Manage your muted accounts from the moderation settings screen
  • It’s just between you and your timeline, more of a gentle “shhh”

Improvements

Profiles got a proper layout overhaul.

  • Tabbed navigation: Posts, Flicks, Replies, and Boards with smooth cross-fade transitions
  • Flicks tab shows a clean 2-column thumbnail grid
  • Replies tab so you can browse just replies from any account
  • Followers/Following screen now includes a Mutuals tab
  • Add a website URL from Edit Profile
  • Bio character limit updated to 300 characters (you’ll have to “show more” to see the rest)

Heads up: because of the new website field, URLs in bios are no longer tappable. Use the website field instead.

Search is getting better. Just a bit. It’s iterative. There’s more work to be done here.

  • Returns both People and Posts in a single unified view
  • Post results support infinite scroll so you can keep digging
  • Results animate in as you type

Find new accounts, make new friends, connect with communities you’re interested in.

  • Recommendations now blend your social connections, interests, and popular accounts
  • Interest-based suggestions grouped by category
  • Co-follow suggestions: accounts that people you follow also follow
  • Dismiss a suggestion once and it won’t come back (still searchable everywhere else)

A few changes to how posts look and work.

  • Up to 6 images per post (up from 4)
  • Redesigned post footer: the Boards (save) button replaces the old Repost button; share opens the new Share Sheet
  • “Liked by [name]” indicator when someone you follow liked a post
  • Discussion row shows if people you follow are replying to a post, with stacked avatars
  • Post meta now shows more context at a glance (e.g., “15m · Image” or “15m · Quote · News Link”)
  • Links and hashtags styled in bold black underline instead of red, easier to read
  • Videos in quote posts now open in the Flicks player

Shared content in chat actually looks like something now.

  • Posts, boards, and profiles show as rich preview cards. No more bare links.
  • Previews include the author’s avatar, post text, images, and timestamp

We fixed blocking in the last release. This time we made it thorough.

  • Blocking removes all their notifications directed at you
  • Takes down mutual follows
  • Hides their content from your threads and search results

All account and post actions in one clean menu.

  • Follow, mute, block, report, delete, pin: all accessible from one place
  • Confirmation message to make sure you really want to make that block

Fixes

A shorter list this time. That’s progress.

  • Fixed profile saves failing with an expired token error
  • Fixed leaving the Interests screen without saving losing your changes
  • Fixed follow-through reposts not appearing in your timeline
  • Fixed profile pictures and display names not loading after cache expiry
  • Fixed location autocomplete showing full country names instead of short codes (now shows “Toronto, ON” instead of “Toronto, ON, Canada”)

Known Issues

Nothing major… yet. The new home screen and topic feeds are fresh, so if something feels off or a feed seems way off-base, let us know through the in-app feedback form.

Thanks

This one is a bit of a doozie. Things are feeling more and more like they were always meant to be. And your input has made refining things that much easier.
